Early-career professionals who are conducting outstanding work in product development or research in defense, commercial, and scientific sensing, imaging, optics, or related fields are invited to apply for Rising Researchers awards in a program offered by SPIE, the international society for optics and photonics.
The program recognizes early-career professionals (in this case, within 10 years of their terminal degree), and provides professional growth and networking opportunities, facilitates participation in the SPIE Defense + Commercial Sensing technical program, and creates possibilities for future program or topic involvement or leadership roles.
For 2018 awards, conference abstract submissions are due 9 October, and applications are due by 16 October. Complete information is at www.spie.org/x119970.xml. Winners will be notified in November.
Nominations consisting of a CV, recommendation letter, and short research impact statement video will be used by a selection committee comprised of SPIE Defense + Commercial Sensing conference chairs and steering committee members, and SPIE leadership.
Winners’ achievements included important advances such as images richer in information and enabling more accurate analysis of those details, improved high-altitude imaging, and new computational imaging systems for biomedical diagnosis and industrial testing. Selected 2018 Rising Researchers will receive recognition and prizes on-site at SPIE Defense + Commercial Sensing 2018 in Orlando, Florida, 15–19 April, including:
· 1 conference registration fee waiver
· 1-year SPIE Membership
· 1 fee waiver for a half-day course
· Recognition ceremony at the symposium plenary session
· Special invitation to networking events
Researchers will be acknowledged as Rising Researcher awardees in their paper listings in the conference program and in other SPIE materials such as SPIE Professional magazine.
Postdoctoral researchers are eligible to apply, and SPIE Membership is not required. Women, minorities, and veterans are encouraged to apply.
