The Value Engineering Alliance (VEA) has released the EASY (Embedded Application SYstem), an industrial computer and machine vision platform. Housed in compact, aluminium package, the Easy provides all of the core hardware components needed to deploy cost-effective vision systems in an array of automation solutions.

Users can chose from the Microsoft Windows XP, Windows XP Embedded or Linux operating systems. The platforms are available in configurations ranging from Celeron-powered units that combine four USB 2.0 ports, one Gigabit Ethernet interface and VGA display, to more powerful Core Duo-based units that feature 2Gb RAM, 80Gb disk memory, DVI or VGA video, eight USB 2.0 ports, a six-port GigE switch and intelligent Power Over Ethernet (POE) on all channels, a PLC and 16 opto-isolated, bi-directional, programmable digital I/O pin points.

The EASY is suited to serve as the host PC for data matrix decoding and OCR applications, or to act as a centralised processor for automatic identification architectures composed of networked cameras.
