Allied Vision Technologies is to move its research and development centre to a larger facility in Ahrensburg near Hamburg, Germany. The company also plans to expand its work force and recruit new employees to work on hardware and software development.

A collaboration between optics manufacturer Carl Zeiss and Logitech, the webcam manufacturer, has resulted in crystal clear video conferencing at a very low price. The first cameras to be produced from the collaboration have now gone on sale at a retail price of less than €100.

Carl Zeiss has also won The Scientists’ Choice award for Cell Biology Microscopy at the Life Science Industry Awards 2007. The result was based on 3,000 responses to an pnline survey from readers of The Scientist.
