H2020 project to develop mobile computer vision platform

A three-year international project aiming to develop an advanced computer vision platform has been launched in January. The Eyes of Things (EoT) is a €3.7 million project recently selected by the European Commission in one of the first batches of the ICT-H2020 framework programme.

Over the three years, the consortium will build a computer vision platform that can be used both on its own and embedded into more complex devices, particularly for wearable applications, robotics, home products and surveillance.

The core hardware will be based on a SoC that will give high performance for demanding vision applications while maintaining a low energy consumption. The aim is to offer truly mobile vision processing.

Software will be developed in parallel to this design, at both the low and middleware levels, and also for a number of demonstrators. The demonstrators span applications in surveillance, wearable devices and systems embedded into household items.

The project consortium is composed of eight European partners: Visilab (Spain, project coordinator), Movidius (Ireland), Awaiba (Portugal), DFKI (Germany), Thales (France), Fluxguide (Austria), nViso (Switzerland), and Evercam (Ireland). A kick-off meeting will take place on 27 January.
