Emcal v2.0

Andor has released v2.0 of Emcal, its gain recalibration software for its pioneering iXonEM+ range of back-illuminated electron multiplying CCD cameras.

Emcal is a patented method of reducing EM gain decline over time, increasing measurement accuracy and repeatability, and removing the need to send the camera back to the factory for recalibration.

The EM gain of back-illuminated EMCCD cameras slowly decreases, even when the camera is being used carefully. In addition, EM gain varies non-linearly with temperature, meaning the software-measured gain and true EM gain may not be the same. With Emcal, users can return their camera's EM gain to factory settings at the touch of a button. It automatically measures and resets the EM gain, if required.
