The Baumer-GAPI (Generic Application Programming Interface) is the generic programming interface for Baumer Optronic's digital cameras. This interface was developed to operate all Baumer cameras by use of a standard software interface (API) regardless of the sensor (CCD or CMOS), the transmission interface (Gigabit Ethernet or FireWire IEEE 1394 a/b), and other specific performance characteristics. The Baumer-GAPI automatically detects attached cameras and mixed operation of cameras using different interfaces is possible. Expansion for future transmission interfaces is already included. This provides the customer with a high degree of flexibility and assurance for both current and future image processing applications.
The Baumer-GAPI is able to integrate over 60 standard camera models and many OEM cameras used in numerous applications in industry, medicine, measurement technology, and other areas. The product portfolio comprises both monochrome and colour cameras with resolutions reaching from VGA up to 8 Megapixel, equipped with CCD or CMOS sensors.
A complete and powerful Software Development Kit (SDK) is supplied for Windows or Linux operating system and the corresponding drivers for GigE or FireWire. Installation is simple and with the Baumer-GAPI Viewer program, all the parameters of the camera can be set using the API functions, and the results are visible immediately.
Linking into the application software uses .NET standard languages such as C#, VB.NET and C/C++. Links are generated only once, regardless of camera or interface.
