uEye XS

IDS Imaging Development Systems has released the uEye XS model, a USB 2.0 camera. The ultra-compact 22 x 24 x 24mm camera features an 8 Megapixel sensor and comes with built-in auto focus and a DSP that provides powerful functionality.

The face tracking feature can detect and track up to four different faces in a real-time image acquisition mode. The electronic stabilisation function helps prevent blurred images caused by camera movement and vibration. The uEye XS also comes with automatic image controls such as auto exposure and auto white balance that allows the user to achieve optimum image quality under varying lighting conditions. Two new image acquisition modes extend the range of applications: In Night mode, up to five frames are added in order to minimise noise; In Series mode, the camera captures multiple frames in quick succession. This delivers high frame sequence rates even when multiple cameras are used.

The auto focus system has a viewing angle of 53° and a minimum focusing distance of 100mm. Auto focus is also tracked even during live image acquisition at a resolution of 1,280 x 720 pixels and a 15fps. The frames can be transferred uncompressed or in MJPEG format. All single frames are transferred to the PC at full 8 Megapixel resolution.

The USB uEye XS supports the latest version 3.50 of the uEye software package. This release also provides drivers for 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems, including Windows 7, Vista and XP. Besides many ready-to-run demo programs with source code in C++, C# and VB, the software package features interfaces for GenICam, ActiveX, Direct3D and popular image processing libraries such as CVB, Halcon, LabView and Vision Pro.
