Needle inspection system

Schott and Moritex have developed a needle inspection system. The system can be used to automatically inspect and measure a variety of needle types and geometries on the basis of different requirements such as external dimensions or grinding angle. It features multiple CCD cameras, including the lens optics, LED illumination media and a diode laser for locating the needle and determining any changes in angle.

The system’s specially developed measurement software compares the measured geometric data with stored specifications to detect any deviations. In its current stage, it is capable of performing around 15 different types of measurements, although more are possible. The exact light source, wavelength range, lighting format and parameters to be inspected can be selected depending on the processing conditions. Japanese needle manufacturers are already using this innovative inspection system.
