Gocator 3D smart sensors supports OCR

LMI Technologies (LMI), the global leader in 3D scanning and inspection, is pleased to announce that Gocator® 3D smart sensors now support Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and Barcode Reading. These essential machine vision capabilities can be applied to a broad range of inspection applications where decoding characters or symbols is required.

Optical Character Recognition (OCR)

The Surface OCR tool recognizes and extracts a string of text from surfaces, using either 3D height map scan data or 2D intensity scan data. Surface OCR adds a valuable capability for inspection applications that decode flat or embossed characters and symbols in markets such as automotive (stamped parts), battery and packaging (track and trace), and rubber & tire sidewall (DOT-codes).

Barcode Reading

The Surface Barcode tool in Gocator® allows you to read data encoded in 1D (linear) and 2D barcodes from surface data (2D intensity or 3D heightmap), without the need for 2D vision cameras or specialized barcode readers.

“The new OCR and barcode tools in Gocator® offer customers an in-demand toolset for a range of industry applications, and demonstrate the ease our 3D technology has in decoding both 2D and 3D markings. This capability adds many new use cases such as verifying stamped parts or loading job files based on part identifiers. ” said Terry Arden, CEO, LMI Technologies.

Note: The Surface OCR tool only runs on GoMax® Smart Vision Accelerator.
