Allied Vision Technologies launches fundraising campaign targetting eye diseases

Allied Vision Technologies has kicked off a fundraising campaign to help prevent and cure blindness and eye diseases in developing countries. The project is part of the company’s 25th anniversary celebration.

80% of blindness could be avoided
Every year, World Sight Day is an annual day of awareness held on the second Thursday of October, to focus global attention on blindness and vision impairment. This year’s World Sight Day is on October 9, 2014. Today, it is estimated that about 39 million people worldwide are blind. Shockingly, 80% of blindness can be prevented or cured as a major reason is the lack of appropriate medical care in poor countries. For example, cataract surgery is a procedure most people in the world just cannot afford.

Sightsavers is an international organization that works in more than 30 countries to eliminate avoidable blindness and support people with visual impairment to live independently. As it celebrates its 25th anniversary, Allied Vision has decided to support this charity with an extraordinary fundraising project. “This year, we are celebrating our success. In 25 years, we have grown to become a world-leading manufacturer of cameras for industrial and scientific imaging”, says Frank Grube, President & CEO of the company. “It was important to us that on this occasion, we also give something back and make sure that people in need can also benefit from our success”. Choosing the right cause is always hard, but ended up being an obvious decision, says Grube: “Our business is to help people see more. It was a natural step to help blind people get their eyesight back”.

Pulling all together: all employees involved
Allied Vision has been supporting charities for years with dedicated donations. This time, the company wanted to leverage on its worldwide network to achieve an even bigger result. Staff at all eight locations will be given working time to organize local fundraising activities. Business partners such as distributors, customers, suppliers, are kindly asked to contribute to the effort. Allied Vision’s parent company Augusta AG has already committed to participate with a five-digit donation.

„With this worldwide fundraising campaign, we hope to collect more money than we would have been able to donate on our own”, explains Frank Grube. “We will not organize a big party for our 25th anniversary. Instead, we ask our business partners to join us in supporting that cause”.

The Fundraising campaign runs until November 30, 2014. Donations can be made online at http://info.alliedvisiontec.com/e/11262/alliedvision25/wlk8l/513595895. All money collected via this independent platform is forwarded directly to Sightsavers.
