Hamamatsu releases camera simulation tool at Photonics West

Hamamatsu has released an online camera simulation engine at SPIE Photonics West, the optics and photonics trade show taking place in San Francisco from 16 to 18 February.

The platform, developed in collaboration with Dr Talley Lambert of the Harvard Imaging Centre, models the effects of camera specifications on image quality and signal-to-noise ratio.

The online tool is designed to make it easier for researchers to optimise their imaging system by exploring how parameters like quantum efficiency, pixel size, and read noise will affect the image quality.

Hamamatsu covers a wide range of camera technology including scientific CMOS, electron multiplied CCDs and other imaging platforms. The virtual test software means researchers can toggle through numerous options to generate an optimised imaging system based on Hamamatsu products.

The current version of the website only has sample pictures, but the company aims to launch a version where users can upload their own images to see how different camera specifications can improve image quality.
