Stingray diode laser-based line generators

Coherent has introduced its Stingray range of diode laser-based line generators. These laser projectors enable the construction of fast and accurate machine vision systems that utilise 3D triangulation.
The Stingray series combines a diode laser with high performance electronics and precision, refractive optics for collimation and line generation covering a wide range of fan angles. They also incorporate optional diffractive elements for creating complex output patterns.
Stingray models are available with output powers as high as 200mW and at key wavelengths throughout the 450nm to 1,550nm spectral range, including 450nm, 520nm, 635nm, and 660nm lines.
The lasers feature line intensity non-uniformity down to ±5 per cent in a standard product. This high uniformity reduces the need for image post-processing, and translates directly into increased measurement speed and dimensional accuracy.
Stingray lasers also offer external user-focusable optics, which allow the laser line to be precisely optimised for the exact projection distance. Additionally, the Stingray’s optomechanical design permits dynamic line balancing, enabling simple correction of any intensity bias in configurations where the laser is used at off-axis illumination angles.
To further enhance usability, Stingray lasers also include an internal ‘health monitor’ that indicates when a diode is approaching the end of its life.
